    Stop Fixing Women:
Why building fairer workplaces is everyone’s business

    Lunch Briefing | Monday 26 Mar 2018

Organisations have been wasting time, money and attention in addressing the gender gap by focusing on ‘fixing women’. But trying to fit women into male breadwinner norms is only reinforcing the very gender stereotypes that cause sexism in the first place.  That’s why so many traditional diversity measures based on this idea - from confidence building workshops to 'leaning in’ - have simply failed to deliver results.

But a range of organisational case studies and international research supports a very different direction. This evidence suggests that change will only emerge from intervening to shift workplace rules, and remove the bias in processes, attitudes and behaviour that hamper a fairer outcome for women. That means everyone must be involved – including the men running most of our workplaces and with the power to challenge the status quo.

Over this lunch briefing, Catherine Fox will share her views on why building fairer workplaces is everybody’s business, and how we can make a change to build businesses of the future.
