Your donation will support critical Cassowary conservation programs
One of the most ancient of all creatures to inhabit the Wet Tropics of Queensland is the Endangered Southern Cassowary. As a 'keystone species' its role is pivotal in preserving the rainforest and its unique plant and animals. Yet its estimated that as few as 1,000 birds remain.
The greatest threat to Cassowaries is us...people. Rapid urban development has either destroyed or fragmented much of their habitat.
This loss of habitat exposes them to further threats including dog attacks and vehicle strikes. With so few birds left in the wild, we must act now to help save the Endangered Southern Cassowary.
With your help we can:
Buy-back Daintree rainforest and stop the destruction of the cassowary's corridors
Restore vital feeding and breeding habitats
Your donation in support of our Save the Cassowary Campaign will support a wide range of Cassowary conservation initiatives across the Wet Tropics including:
the buy back and protection of rainforest habitat classified as 'essential' for the Endangered Southern Cassowary;
the expansion and creation of new Cassowary corridors through planting and restoration activities;
the care of sick and orphaned Cassowaries through the Garner's Beach Cassowary Rehabilitation Centre;
research and community education programs to support our conservation activities.
