St Aidan's P-3 Walking with Darcy
MontroseAccess (Bris)

Thank you for visiting my webpage. I have decided to participate in Ability First Australia’s Walk With Me event to support people living with disabilities, and their families. Will you sponsor me so that I can reach my goal?
All the money raised during the Walks around Australia on 12 September, 2010 will be put towards respite services, in its many forms. Some kids with disabilities spend the weekend or part of the school holidays at cottages where they enjoy the company of other kids of a similar age and disability. They go to the movies, zoo, cook, play and just hang out together.

For others respite is a home visit by a professional carer who looks after the family member with a disability for a day, weekend or even longer. That carer may even go on the family holiday, giving the entire family a break together.

Youth groups and recreational activities also form part of the respite activities Ability First Australia Members provide.

All I want to do is help give kids with disabilities, and their families, a break.

All you have to do is sponsor me! register today while you are here!

A MESSAGE FROM DARCY AND LOUISE They say it takes a village to bring up a child and having a child with additional needs accentuates that adage. I am Louise and my daughter Darcy is 7 years old. She has an undiagnosed Congenital Myopathy and an Infantile Scoliosis with an S curve of around 54 degrees. She wears a spinal brace 24 hours a day and has done since she was 18 months old. This year will see her have a second muscle biopsy surgery to search for more clues to define her underlying diagnosis. Darcy receives weekly physiotherapy and has done since her first physiotherapy session at 4 days old. But by then she had already undergone emergency procedures in ICU and had seen a myriad of specialists. This was our family's new normal! We floundered around the health system searching for analysis, diagnosis, therapy, clarification, answers and were referred to Montrose by a local Neurologist about 5 years ago now. Montrose became our village helping to ensure Darcy becomes the best she can possibly be. Darcy is amazing. She is part of the junior Geckos Indoor Rock Climbing Program at Urban Climb. She loves Art, Craft, skipping, and her friends at St Aidans Anglican Girls School. She is loud, has a wicked sense of humour and about as much chutzpah as her Mum can bear! There is absolutely no stopping her. People w--- know Darcy wonder just what she will be when she grows up because if she wants to walk on the moon - there will be no stopping her. Montrose has and will continue to support our entire family. Our village is a wonderful one!
