The Benevolent Society is committed to protecting your privacy online. This policy outlines how we use the personal and organisational information you provide to us through our website. The policy may be updated from time to time.

Information Collection

For statistical purposes, The Benevolent Society collects and stores the following information about visitors to its website:

-  domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au)

-  the web pages accessed and documents downloaded

-  previous site visited

No attempts are made to identify anyone browsing our website. The data is only used to measure the number of visitors to the different parts of the site and to help us make the site more useful to you. You are able to browse our website without entering any personal information and therefore remain anonymous during your visit.

We do not use cookies that can identify you when you are in the public section of our website. If you use the secure section of our website then we use cookies to assist in identification. The Benevolent Society does not sell, loan or give away any information collected from our website.

No data collected on the site will be disclosed to any third party except where the details are required to transfer information for volunteering, donations, food tours, to reply to a specific request that you might have or where it is legally required (such as in the investigation of a criminal offence and in compliance with a search warrant or subpoena).

We only record your e-mail address if you make a donation through our website, or if you send us a message. This message could be:

-   Feedback on our site - we use this to administer and improve our website.

-   Subscribe to our e-newsletter - we and our internet development company only use the information provided to administer the delivery of our e-newsletter to those requesting it

-   An inquiry to any of the e-mail addresses of The Benevolent Society's programs which are listed on our website - any information provided will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it or with your permission.


Online Donations and Events

Our donation and event pages are hosted by a third party called ESiT. 

All responsible steps are taken to protect your security when using the site. The Benevolent Society uses the Payflow Payment Gateway which processes payments through the Paypal merchant server. Donation processing is secured by 128-bit SSL encryption to protect the transfer of personal and financial information between your browser and our server.

Each donation is Verisign secured, and credit card details are NOT stored at any time. The only information collected and retained, in keeping with the Privacy Policy of The Benevolent Society, is the amount of the donation, transaction date, name and contact details as completed on the donation form.

Data quality

We strive to keep all information current. If you have identified that the information we hold about you is incorrect or out-of-date please contact us immediately at mailben@bensoc.org.au so we can amend it.

Off-site links

The Benevolent Society is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any site that is linked to its website. Your activity on those sites is covered by the privacy policies of those sites.
